Broken Gear Mags

Check this amazing archive of studio equipment magazines going back to the very beginning of time. Its awesome for people who have a studio full of ancient gear who want to read a review of an obscure electronic device that was released 30 years ago and then disappeared after a few months because it broke. These mags are filled to the brim with all my favourite stuff!

Quadrasonics

Sefa and Ben sent me a magazine through the post - its called Electronics Today from 1972. Its really interesting reading through it - imagining a world where digital watches were an exciting development on the horizon, and the likes of Sansui would fill our homes with amazing Quadrasonic Sound. That never caught on really...

Runabout

Ive been having a really busy few weeks on a big project that involves me moving house. So I need a new (old) car to do the commute, which is now a lot longer than it used to be. I think I might get a Citroen BX because it can do 65 MPG on the motorway. And also it was designed in the late 70s / early 80s by one of my favourite designers, Bertoni. It started life as the Reliant FW11 and then turned into the Volvo Tundra but both concept cars were rejected until Citroen nicked it in 1982:

UPDATE: I bought a MK3 Golf instead

Full Metal Fairlight

I saw this over on Matrixsynth - a post about Vivian Kubrick, who made the music for FMJ on her Fairlight. I really love the sound and feel of her music, gonna have to find more of it - check it out:

Off The Wall

Theres a great set of pictures taken at the Moog factory in 1977 over on synthesisers.com. I noticed a couple of pics taken of some sketches pinned to the wall, and it reminded me of this previous post I did about Minimoog concept art. So I tried to clean up the pics a bit:

Roland and Hermes

I managed to blow up my Roland MC500 micro composer by plugging in UK 240v power when it should have had US 110v. This is a very stupid and very common mistake to make. Luckily Roland put a fuse inside the machine just after the power supply to protect it from idiots like me and I managed to get it working again. However I thought I would put a warning sticker on it to remind me in the future. So I used my new typewriter to make it on - introducing the amazing 1985 Hermes Top-Tronic 15

Moog Girls

Also saw this over on matrixsynth, via the Moog Music Inc FB page. Its a great pic of an as yet unidentified Moog Girl from the 1960s

Which strongly reminded me of this pic that I took of Hannah a while ago:

Back Stage

Sitting back stage at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich, and I noticed a book John had just been given called Back Stage - a very detailed archive of Gary Numan's 1979-80 tours. See here for more info.

Theres a cool list in it of his stage equipment - including five Polymoogs, six Minimoogs, and four MXR Flanger/Doublers!
