Amek M3000 is better than Neve, API, SSL, Trident shock

Quote from ebayer: "This listing is for a vintage (1979) Amek M3000 mixer. In my opinion, this is the best sounding analog mixer that I've ever recorded on, including Neve's, SSL's, API's and Tridents. It was designed by Rupert Neve and it sold new for $249,000.00"

A very interesting looking console from 1979. I don't know anything about it other than from the description in the ebay auction. It's IC-based, but who knows, it might have some magic [although I don't think Neve had a hand in it....]. I love high-end items like this coming up on ebay - even at £10k part of me wants to think it's a bargain

  1. RUPERT NEVE DESGIN ? IN 1979 ? I DON'T THINK SO !!!!
NOTE : RUPERT NEVE START COLLABORATION WITH AMEK EARLY 90' AFTER LEAVING FOCUSRITE (DUE COMPANY NOT GOOD ECONOMIC SITUATION) AND DESIGNED ALSO SUMMIT AUDIO ELEMENT 78 SERIES,

THE ONLY AMEK DESIGNED BY RUPERT NEVE ARE : AMEK MOZART "RN" VERSION DESK , AND AMEK 9098i DESK AND RELATED 19" RACK MODULES.

RETTER THAN NEVE AND SSL ? I REALLY HAVE BIG DOUBTS !NEVER MIXED ON A NEVE 80 SERIES DESK (WITH 1081,1073,33115, ECC...PRE EQS ) OR A NEVE V2 ,V3 , 88R DESK ?

AMEK 2500 AND 3000 (SAME ELECTRONIC DESIGN WITH SOME DIFFERENCE LIKE SMALL FADER THAT REPLACE THE GAIN POT , BUT GLOBALLY SAME DESIGN AND SOUND (EXCEPT FOR THE TRANSFORMER INPUT VERSION)
YESS A VERY GOOD CONSOLE LOVED FROM MANY AND HATED BY OTHERS .

PLEASE DON'T MAKE MISINFORMATION - CONFUSION , THE REAL DESIGNERS OF THE CONSOLES (STILL ALIVE) COULD GET ANGRY AND CREATE YOU SOME PROBLEM !
    BEST REGARDS

    3. Sorry for the typo the Amek M1000, M2500 & M3000 is the best of Neve Langly design. IMA only other desks i'd consider drooling over if we had the cash would be a used Calrec or possible ( Wunder Audio desk there is one on Ebay for only 69,000). Cheers Doyen AudioHipster

  3. My good friend owns this desk and it is that good. Abbey Road and Pink Floyd APPROVED. BEATLE BIG Rusty Anderson recorded on this in 80, Danny Elfmen. Built the largest independent studio in Hollywood.

  4. I am currently on the Billboard Out Law music charts with Miles William's great grandson of Hank the first. Desk has David Gilmore tone right off of The Wall. I have worked with Bob Rock and Keith Olson. This board is insane. 40 years young.....

    1. The Amek M3000 should have thumbwheel selection for the VCA subgroups on the faders. The console in the photo doesn't have this.
I also don't know that this console sounds better than a Trident 80c. Yes it is good. I have a single input channel I kept as a spare after an install. But I don't believe it is as good as the Trident.

  5. M3000 Mix Desk so nice layout and features , price/features ratio too (evolution of the M2500 ? ) unfortunately Vca technology on mixing console mostly in that age do not give "+" to the sound :( (noise, distortion, bandwith issues, etc..) , just a less expensive alternative to the moving faders , used mostly by post production studios with "limited" budget, many guys with appropriate tech knowledge got old pro range studio & live analog consoles like also Midas, A&H, etc.. , for a very low price, and have bypased the vca sections with mods getting sound "benefits", so Vca bypass is a "+" , as other 2 cents here an M3000 with moving faders , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNHSFcSGYY0
